Pharmacists Mutual has an opening for a Director of Internal Audit. In conjunction with the CEO and subject to approval by the Audit Committee, the Internal Audit Director develops the overall audit strategy to assess the control framework in relation to risks for the parent company and its subsidiaries. This role is responsible for overseeing and leading complex reviews and ensuring the proper execution of the audit strategy. The role evaluates current policies and processes to ensure the adequacy of the control environment. This position interacts effectively across all levels of the organization and builds strong working partnerships cross-functionally with business units. Essential Functions Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following: Oversees the execution of multiple simultaneous audit projects of all sizes and complexity across operational process areas from planning to audit closing. Manages overall internal audit functions by understanding the key current and emerging risks within subject areas. Leads the Department in a manner that promotes Internal Audit as a positive strategic partner, focused on process improvement and providing meaningful, constructive feedback. Ensures timely completion, maintenance and execution of the annual testing plans. Provides advice and effective challenge to internal stakeholders. Identifies and makes meaningful recommendations to the executive team and serves as a change agent that will make an immediate impact in the areas of audit controls and business processes. Oversees the development of a continuous risk monitoring process. Evaluates, proposes and implements appropriate corrective measures designed to strengthen internal controls, operational policies and procedures, and other weaknesses identified during audits. Prepares clear and concise audit work papers and audit reports summarizing scope, methodology, and significant conclusions of audit procedures performed within prescribed time frames. Regularly provides internal audit reports and whistleblower investigation results to the Audit Committee and conducts any follow up actions as directed by the Committee or Board of Directors. Schedules and assigns audits to team members, ensuring effective and efficient use of resources. Acts as a critical part of cross-functional project teams that are aimed at improving internal controls and business processes. Manages projects to completion; communicates effectively with all management teams, and benchmarks functional and industry specific audit best practices and trends. Remains up-to-date on audit principles and the industries best practices. Keeps certifications and licenses current; attends regular and relevant trainings offered through industry resources. Serves as the primary resource for those wishing to report a whistleblower complaint and investigates all complaints. Act as a liaison for the Company with external auditors or other examiners and provide audit assistance as needed. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge and understanding of audit techniques, internal controls and audit principles. Knowledge of insurance principles and practices. Ability to understand, interpret, and apply administrative and departmental policies and procedures as well as applicable federal & state laws and regulations. Knowledge of generally accepted auditing standards. Knowledge of statutory accounting principles and generally accepted accounting principles. Knowledge of employee management principles including supervision, training, and performance evaluation. Ability to present analyses and recommendations in a clear and compelling manner to both technical and non-technical audiences, including executive management. Strong analytical skills, with high degree of organization and attention to detail. Ability to manage and improve processes. Ability to use initiative and apply innovative thinking while effectively managing the team, including setting priorities, objectives and goals. Establish and maintain effective working relationships and communication with all levels of the organization including executive management and the Board of Directors. Ability to have difficult conversations, establish buy-in from process owners, and present audit findings in a non-threating manner. Ability to work independently to make critical decisions and analyze complex issues. Obtain and utilize sensitive information discreetly and objectively. Read, interpret, and input data efficiently and accurately. Determine when to escalate concerns to executive management. Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and manage diverse projects simultaneously. Exceptional oral and written presentation skills. Utilizes computer and related software effectively, especially Microsoft Excel and Word. Correct English usage, spelling, grammar, vocabulary and punctuation.
